Launching of The New

Posted: August 10, 2021 in Lighted Objects
This was the first design I started on, and one of the last to be completed. The number of hours involved in building this up from the 25+ individual parts, plus the wiring and placement of light sources was considerable.
This is a later piece that includes several lessons learned along the way. It also is the second complete fabrication of this design, as the first had issues I needed to correct, which turned it to scrap. After several re-designs, and a complete re-make, this version is worthy of offering.
I need your business as patrons

The next step is to transform all of this effort into an income source. Unlike past experimental and demonstration projects explored on this blog, from this point forward, I am seeking customers for these works, and future work I will be releasing soon. I am asking, and hoping that anyone who sees these objects and likes them, that they will share them with others.

I am also prepared to work on a commission basis to assist others in realizing their own creative dreams, or to produce a custom piece, or multiples, to suit a need. Since I use modern methods, including 3D printing, to make these objects. making duplicates is readily accommodated.

As an artist, I will continue to create from my own visions. However, as an artist in business, I respect and value input of possible customers as to what they might want to see me explore. To this end, if you have any input or suggestions for me, please contact me via email directly. I can take criticism and am open to ideas I might work from going forward.

Artist Proofs in Current Objects Offered

All of the current offerings are listed as “AP” for Artist Proof. This is explained in more detail on the web site here. An artist proof means that this is a creation that was intended to explore and idea and see it realized, with no consideration of making additional copies in a series. These are, by definition, one-off works that will not be duplicated exactly. Any future iterations (if any) will be derived from the AP version to accommodate making more than one, and to reduce the time and effort involved, or to adjust the design in some way through a second AP iteration.

About the light source and dimming

These are not portable lights, they are lighted art objects. This is an important distinction. These objects are created with the intent of them being durable over many years, under the same care one might invest in any other art object. The works are also intended to contribute to the interior space they reside in, as any other sculptural object.

The inclusion of light in these objects is to add an element that is normally not included in sculpture. The lighted elements are applied in the same manner as one might apply a texture or color. To this end, the intent is not to create a light fixture, but to create objects with lighted features. The use of OLED sources supports this intent exceptionally well, so was chosen for that reason. The light is intended to be seen, or to emit ambient illumination, as part of the expression, but is not necessarily a functional feature – except in cases where there are features that serve as a task light or uplight intent on contributing to ambient illumination – which is intended to be bounced back onto the object to make it visible, even when no other illumination source is applied.

The inclusion of dimming is to allow the patron to set the intensity of the lighted portion of the object to suit the ambient and applied location. Dimming is not intended to be used as a regular functional feature (although it can be), but more as a pre-set for balancing the light emitted from the work with its visual surroundings. Many of the objects do a very nice job providing ambient illumination, which can be set and adjusted to suit the space using the dimming feature included in each object.

More to come

I will post more as I build this new version of both myself and Lumenique. I thank everyone that has already made their thoughts known. New releases will be coming on as regular a basis as I can, so please stay tuned!
